SAFETY WEARABLES & NIGHT TIME LIGHTING

BEGINNING IN 2025

As stated in “Race Rules & Standards”, all race participants are required to wear certain safety clothing. These requirements will be strictly enforced.

RUNNERS—INDIVIDUAL & TEAM MEMBERS:

During all daylight hours, runners are required to wear a race-provided highly visible reflective “vest” that will clearly identify them as KEYS100 competitors, serving as an additional reminder to the public of a race in progress. This race-provided “vest” is shown in the margin. ALL individual runners and team members will receive one at check-in. At nighttime--defined for KEYS100 as 7:30pm until 6:00am--runners must also wear clearly visible flashing colored lights, front and rear, OR may wear a different reflective garment of their choice plus the flashing colored lights. Team members who are not actively running AND REMAIN INSIDE THE TEAM VEHICLE may remove their reflective gear.

CREW MEMBERS, INCLUDING PACERS SUPPORTING INDIVIDUAL RUNNERS & TEAM DRIVERS:

Each MUST wear an ANSI-2 compliant garment during the entire race, day and night, and it must be YELLOW in color. Examples of ANSI-2 compliant garments are shown in the margin. IN ADDITION,during nighttime hours FLASHING COLORED LIGHTS, front and rear, that are visible at a distance, must be worn whenever outside the support vehicle.

For 2025 only, crew and drivers may opt to wear a (yellow) suspender-type "vest" similar to those provided runners instead of the ANSI-2 compliant shirt or vest.  Crew and Drivers must provide their own garment to meet this requirement.

EXPLAINING “ANSI-2” AND WHERE TO BUY:

In addition to the bright yellow color, highly reflective tape runs vertically and continuously along both sides of the chest, across the shoulders and down the back, with another running horizontally below chest level, 360 degrees around the body. ANSI-2 compliant garments offered for sale will specify that they meet that standard. Examples of a tee shirt and a lightweight vest are shown below.

ANSI-2 compliant clothing is readily available. Here are examples of reasonably priced online vendors: HiVisSupply.com, SafetySmartGear.com, ReflectiveApparel.com, uline.com

REMINDER: Rules regarding safety clothing and nighttime lighting will be strictly enforced. In addition to penalizing runners not in

compliance, severe penalties will also be levied against the runner or team when crew (or team drivers) are without proper gear. Be safe; comply fully with these standards.
