CREATING A RELAY TEAM

TEAMS: WELCOME TO THE 16th ANNUAL KEYS100

The team captain creates the team, pays the full registration fee, and registers as a runner. Then, additional team members may register. MINIMUM AGE to compete on a team is sixteen (16); exceptions require the approval of the Race Director.  If a registered team member “drops” before race day, the captain may delete that member to make room for a new runner to register in their place. (See further details below.)

Team size & strategy:

100-mile team max. is six (6) runners, but you may race with fewer.  50-mile team max. is three (3), but a team of two is okay. Your decision. And the team decides how many “legs” and how many miles each team member will run. These do not have to be the same and runners do not have to run in order. You will stop every few miles at approved locations only listed in “Meet-up Locations” to change runners.  You may even change your race-day plan along the way if circumstances dictate. Race strategy is yours to decide, and part of the fun of racing KEYS100!

Self-sufficiency:

Relay teams are always self-sufficient. You are responsible for carrying all necessary supplies in the team vehicle, or purchasing them along the way—drinks, food and ice, equipment, and supplies that might be needed during the race. On the course there is lots of race support: staffed timing stations, medical team and race marshals, and others monitoring runner safety and rules compliance. There are stores and restaurants and portable toilets, but there are no race-sponsored aid stations offering food and drinks. Plan accordingly, and use resources available on the race website to help you prepare and organize before race weekend.

Vehicle:

Your team vehicle should be large enough to accommodate all necessary gear, allow room for luggage, and space for teammates to spread out while complying with strict rules regarding vehicle size and type. Read that standard very carefully and ask in advance if unsure.

Driver (optional):

Teams have the option of adding a dedicated driver or taking turns driving themselves. A team driver is not a runner and member of the team but is considered a dedicated team volunteer. ALL participants in the race must register, and that includes team drivers who will use the “Volunteer Registration” process to comply. Be sure to enter the name of the team being supported where requested to do so.

TEAM MEMBERS MAY REGISTER AFTER THE TEAM HAS BEEN CREATED AND FULLY REGISTERED BY CLICKING ON THE "RELAY REGISTRATION" BUTTON BELOW.

Create a Relay Team

  • Click the "Relay Registration" button (below). ANYONE REGISTERING ONE OR MORE TEAMS WHO WILL NOT BE COMPETING AS A TEAM MEMBER MUST CONTACT THE RACE DIRECTOR FOR DIFFERENT INSTRUCTIONS.
  • Follow the initial prompts
  • Select event--“100 Mile Team Relay” or "50 Mile Team Relay"
  • Click the grey “Create a new relay Team” button
  • Select “Relay Team Type”--i.e., competition category.  The two choices are "Open" or "Masters".  Most teams will be in the "Open" category and will then select either all male, all female, or coed (mixed male and female).  To qualify as "Masters", all team members must be 40 or older on race day.
  • Create the team name; this may be changed later.
  • Option to “Set password”. If you choose to create one, then only runners you invite to join your team and who have been given the password may do so
  • Complete remaining questions
  • Pay the full team registration fee.  (Team members may share the cost by reimbursing the team captain directly.)

YOUR TEAM IS NOW CREATED AND THE CAPTAIN IS REGISTERED.  Other team members may now be invited to join and complete their own registration by clicking on "Relay Registration" button.

ALL TEAM CAPTAINS: MANAGE YOUR EXISTING TEAM

Captains will have the ability to change the team name, competition category or (optional) team password, and will be able to add or delete team members by signing into their account on www.runsignup.com
