As stated in “Race Rules & Standards”, all race participants are required to wear certain safety clothing. These requirements will be strictly enforced.
DURING THE DAY, EVERY RUNNER, SUPPORT CREW MEMBER AND TEAM DRIVER MUST wear the highly visible reflective suspender-type “vest” that will be distributed with race packets at check-in. Everyone must be registered and every registered participant must wear this “vest”, which will clearly identify them as KEYS100 participants. This will also serve as an additional reminder to the public of a race in progress.
NIGHTTIME:
Nighttime hours are defined for KEYS100 as 7:30pm on Saturday until 6:00am on Sunday. ALL participants MUST wear clearly visible colored blinking LED lights facing front and rear when outside the vehicle IN ADDITION to a 360-degree reflective garment. At night, each may continue to wear the required daytime reflective garment plus lights or change to an acceptable reflective garment of their choice. A reflective garment that incorporates lights, such as Noxgear, is acceptable at night.
Note that any runner leaving the Marathon Garden Club timing station at MM50 after 4:30pm MUST wear or carry night gear to begin crossing Seven Mile Bridge.
Each MUST wear an ANSI-2 compliant garment during the entire race, day and night, and it must be YELLOW in color. Examples of ANSI-2 compliant garments are shown in the margin. IN ADDITION,during nighttime hours FLASHING COLORED LIGHTS, front and rear, that are visible at a distance, must be worn whenever outside the support vehicle.
For 2025 only, crew and drivers may opt to wear a (yellow) suspender-type "vest" similar to those provided runners instead of the ANSI-2 compliant shirt or vest. Crew and Drivers must provide their own garment to meet this requirement.
In addition to the bright yellow color, highly reflective tape runs vertically and continuously along both sides of the chest, across the shoulders and down the back, with another running horizontally below chest level, 360 degrees around the body. ANSI-2 compliant garments offered for sale will specify that they meet that standard. Examples of a tee shirt and a lightweight vest are shown below.
ANSI-2 compliant clothing is readily available. Here are examples of reasonably priced online vendors: HiVisSupply.com, SafetySmartGear.com, ReflectiveApparel.com, uline.com
REMINDER: Rules regarding safety clothing and nighttime lighting will be strictly enforced. In addition to penalizing runners not in
compliance, severe penalties will also be levied against the runner or team when crew (or team drivers) are without proper gear. Be safe; comply fully with these standards.
