Relay Team & Team Member Registration
Teams: Welcome to the 18th Annual KEYS100®
The military team competition returns. See details below.
Registering Your Team
The team captain creates the team, pays the full registration fee, and registers as a runner. After that, additional team members may register.
If a registered team member drops before race day, the captain may delete that member to make room for a new runner to register in their place.
Minimum age: 16. For a runner younger than 18 to compete, a parent or guardian must be a member of the team or a support driver.
Exceptions may be considered in compelling circumstances, mainly appropriate and significant long-distance race experience. Contact the Race Director.
Team Size & Strategy
100-mile teams may have up to six runners, but may race with fewer. 50-mile teams may have up to three runners, and a team of two is allowed.
Teams decide how many legs and how many miles each member will run. These do not have to be equal, and runners do not have to run in order.
Runner exchanges must happen only at approved meet-up locations listed in Course Details & Meet-Up Locations.
Military Team Competition
May 16, 2026 is also Armed Forces Day in the U.S. Military teams will compete in the overall 100-mile team relay race and against each other for special bragging rights.
The winning military team receives a special award and remains fully eligible for overall relay race awards.
To be eligible, at least 5 team members must be on active duty and full-time.
Self-Sufficiency
Relay teams are always self-sufficient. Teams are responsible for carrying all necessary supplies in the team vehicle or purchasing them along the way, including drinks, food, ice, equipment, and other needed supplies.
There is race support on the course including staffed timing stations, medical teams, Sheriff's deputies at road crossings, and race marshals who monitor safety and rules compliance.
There are stores, restaurants, and portable toilets, but there are no race-sponsored aid stations offering food and drinks.
Vehicle
Your team vehicle should be large enough for gear, luggage, and teammates while still complying with strict rules regarding vehicle size and type.
Read the vehicle restrictions carefully and ask in advance if you are unsure your vehicle qualifies.
Driver (Optional)
Teams may add up to two dedicated drivers, or teammates may take turns driving themselves.
A team driver is not a runner and not a team member, but is considered a dedicated team volunteer. All participants must register, including team drivers, using the Team Driver registration process.
